Hello everyone and welcome to this first blog post! For years I dreamt about having a platform to share the things that I loved the most; our incredible world among them. I knew I wanted to share my trips, recommendations, tips and lessons so that others could travel easier. But it wasn't until this year that I finally decided to launch my Youtube Channel and now my Blog.
As the years went by, I used to regret not having this platform sooner: every new country I went to, every new city I lived in made me think it was another place I didn't write about. And although there were many reasons why I didn't launch this blog sooner, I'm glad to be doing it now. Because today I fully understand the importance and the purpose of what I'm about to share in this platform, which will go beyond recommendations on places to eat and stay.
We are living extremely globalized and digitally connected times. It's now very easy to travel, to hear the news from abroad or to meet people from other cultures. I'm happy the moment to open our horizons to the whole world is here, but even with the connectivity, the ease and the technological advancements we have today, I believe that as a society we still have a long way to go.
When I started traveling over 10 years ago, I was faced with stereotypes and bias about my culture. I constantly had to disprove the idea that Mexico is a deserted country, full of snakes and cactuses, where people wear boots, hats and drink tequila every day. Likewise, I realized that French people don't wear berets every day and Italians don't eat pizza daily. If I think about it now, I find it ridiculous that I once believed those stereotypes, but I think as humans we have learnt to create bias to digest the new information better, or to make "known" the unknown.
Well, I personally think those bias and stereotypes do more harm than good, especially the negative ones, because they cause fear and rejection to people, cultures or experiences we haven't even tried. If there is something I've learnt throughout these years is that every person and culture is incredibly valuable, enriching and beautiful. Every new belief is another possibility and meeting people with different ideas and customs is the best way to open our mind, our hearts and horizons. My way of thinking isn't the only one and that is ok, because I alone will never have answers to everything, but together we might.
It's because of everything I just said that I believe in the importance of what I'm doing and what I will be sharing in this blog. I believe traveling makes us empathetic and helps us understand that no culture or person is above any other, we are all humans with incredible stories sharing the same world, and once we understand that, we'll be able to build a happier and peaceful world.
In these times where, despite the connectivity, we still hear news about wars, violence, racism, inequality and more, I want to do my part by sharing information that shows how being more accepting and how appreciating our differences can help us live peacefully.
¡Of course I'll give you recommendations on things to do, see and eat around the world! ¡Of course I'll share my favorite hotels and cities! But I also hope to share a bit about the beautiful cultures I've been fortunate enough to experience so that you feel inspired to know them and live them.
So, welcome to the blog and I hope to see you here often! :)
Warmly,
-Mar
